Libraries
The university has now a general library with about
30,000 volumes on campus. In the future specialised departmental
libraries will set up. The University will also play a leading
role in the establishment of a public library, in the city. This
will be open to students and the public alike, and will provide
broader access to information for the community at large. Parallel
to the traditional print based libraries, the University will
have an Electronic or On-line Library Service. This will provide:
1. Bibliographic service, in the
form of references to books, articles, unpublished research papers
and reports by title, subject and author, available in the University’s
library system and other national universities.
2. Full text service, or direct access to the
text of electronic journal articles, papers and books
3. Links to websites of international libraries
and publishers
Database Centres
The University library will host a National Database
Centre, which will be home to national databases from surveys,
censuses and other sources. It will also subscribe to international
databases. The will serve as a one-stop data-shop, where students,
staff and researchers can access, on-line, data from large samples
or time series compilations for research.
MUSEUMS
The University will serve as a major custodian of
national and regional heritage. For that purpose, it will establish
a museum of culture, art, photography, artefacts, and objects
of historical significance and interest. The museum will hold,
document, preserve and exhibit collections.
The museum will have a parallel on-line version,
which provides an on-line catalogue, pictures and descriptions
of objects, publications, theme exhibitions, and links to other
museums.
